Should abortion be legalised in Malta? (with certain restrictions, of course)

Results of 20th April 2007

The discussions started when the initiative was born to adapt a no abortion clause in the constitution. Since then this hot issue of abortion has become more present in the press. Different opinions were published, be they in favour or against the introduction of an abortion law. In other EU countries restricted abortions are possible. But not in Malta.

Should this be changed? Should abortion (with certain restrictions, of course) be legalised in Malta?

Between 10th and 20th April 2007 over 550 people
participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

617 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 33 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 33 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 560.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Yes:                                       186 votes   =   33,21 %
No:                                        374 votes   =   66,79 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

More than two thirds of the voters are against the legalisation of abortion in Malta.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This is a clear voting in favour of the Catholic teaching and against the adaption to the times that have changed and where women should have the right to take more decisions about their own body themselves.
The poll shows that a clear majority of people are against abortions.
We will see what the Maltese government will do about it.
