Shall Air Shows still be held in Malta after the bad accident during the Air GP?

Results of 30th September 2006

On Sunday, 10th September a Swedish pilot was killed in an air collision with another stunt air plane. More casualties could be avoided due to the fact that the accident happened over water and so people on the ground were not endangered. Only two weeks later the 14th edition of the Malta Air Show took place. It involved also some air displays. Since the tragedy of the Aero GP beginning of September hot discussions were held whether or not air shows shall be banned to avoid accidents in future. So, shall they be banned or shall they still be held in Malta?

Between 13th and 30th September 2006 well over 450 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

495 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 14 people who voted more than one time. Thevotes of these 14 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain aresult which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 468.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                              311 votes   =   66,45 %
No:                               157 votes   =   33,55 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

A two-third majority is in favour of allowing air shows in Malta in future. The result is clear and confirms other poll results carried out by other organisations.

The editor would like to point out, thatthis poll is not representative for the whole country. However, itgives a clear indication anyway.

Accidents can happen and they unfortunately do happen from time to time. Usually air shows are safe, and the fact that in Malta air displays are often shown over the water, and not over land, it makes them even safer, at least for the viewers.
