Shall the George Cross be excluded from the Maltese flag?

Results of 13th October 2006

After a Maltese flag, which did not contain the George Cross, was waved during the Independence festivities people started discussing the matter of the George Cross exposed on the Maltese flag. Extreme positions were taken. Shall the George Cross be excluded from the Maltese flag?

Between 1st and 13th October 2006 over 200 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

230 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 11 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 11 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 207.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                               19 votes   =    9,18 %
No:                               159 votes   =   76,81 %
I don't care:                      29 votes   =   14,01 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

A clear majority of more than three quarters wants to keep the the George Cross in the Maltese flag. A little less than ten per cent stated that they want the symbol of national pride be excluded from the flag. 14 per cent said that they don't bother about this matter. The Maltese people have accepted and got used to their national flag and its incorporated symbols. They do not want to change their flag. Why should they?

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The Maltese flag with the George Cross is a symbol for pride and braveness and the majority of people want to keep this identity.
