Will the local elections results mirror the general election?

Results of 31st March 2007

In March part of the Maltese electorate could once again vote in the Local Councils' Elections. The turnout was much lower than at General Elections. While PN lost a few seats in the councils, MLP and AD won new councillors. What do these results tell us?

Will the local elections results mirror the general election?

Between 10th and 31st March 2007 over 200 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

221 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 6 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 6 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 212.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                               39 votes   =   18,40 %
No:                               173 votes   =   81,60 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

The Local Councils' Elections are not General Elections, the majority of voters (over eighty per cent) clearly state this by saying that the results will not mirror the general elections. Only 18 per cent thinks that they will mirror.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The results of this poll show clearly that you cannot compare Local Councils' Elections with General Elections. The electorate behaves differently in those different elections.
