Do you think that prices will increase with the adoption of the Euro as single currency?

Results of 31st August 2006

After Malta has joined the European Union in 2004 it is now time to go one step further? Exchange rates and high bank fees shall soon become history. The Maltese governments does many efforts to reach the Maastricht criteria which would allow Malta to join European Monetary Union fully and adopt the Euro as single currency which offers many interesting opportunities and which can be a strong support for the Maltese economy. But experience in other countries of the Eurozone has shown that with the Euro also rises in prices have come with the change. How will it be in Malta? What do the Maltese think about it? Will prices increase with the adoption of the Euro as single currency?

Between 10th and 24th August 2006 well above 300 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

380 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 8 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 8 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 359.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                              272 votes   =   75,77 %
No:                                50 votes   =   13,93 %
I don't know:                      37 votes   =   10,30 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

This poll ended with the clearest result of all online polls in August. An overwhelming majority of three quarters of the people believe that prices will rise with the adoption of the Euro as single currency. The people are not stupid, they see what has happened in other countries of the Eurozone. So if it happened elsewhere, why shouldn't it happen in Malta, too?

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

Rising prices are never something to look forward to. But rising prices is just one aspect of the adoption of the Euro as single currencies. There are not just threads, but also opportunities!
This should be considered, too!
