Shall the George Cross be excluded from the Maltese flag?

Results of 14th October 2006

There is no other country in the world which has more national holidays than Malta. But which one of those do the Maltese people identify with most? If they had to choose only one, which one would it be? Which day shall be Malta's National Holiday?

Between 21st September and 14th October 2006 over 400 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

437 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 24 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 24 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 402.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Freedom Day (March 31):            11 votes   =    2,74 %
Sette Giugnu (June 7):             58 votes   =   14,32 %
Victory Day (September 8):         22 votes   =    5,47 %
Independence Day (September 21):  160 votes   =   39,80 %
Republic Day (December 13):       142 votes   =   35,32 %
Another one:                        9 votes   =    2,24 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

Independece Day, Republic Day and Sette Giugnu are the top three in this poll. These three days seem to mean most to the Maltese people. It is difficult to say whether the historical background of one or the other day is responsible for the support. It could also be the different promotions by the different parties which have an influence.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

Malta has five national holidays, three of them are more popular than the others.ese flag with the George Cross is a symbol for pride and braveness and the majority of people want to keep this identity.
