Should same-sex partnerships (civil unions) be legalised in Malta?

Results of 20th April 2007

The discussions started when the European Union brought up the subject of the harmonisation of divorce laws. Since then also the hot issue of same-sex partnerships has become more present in the press. Different opinions were published, be they in favour or against the introduction of civil unions. In other EU countries a the registration of civil unions is possible. But not in Malta.

Should this be changed? Should registered same-sex partnerships be legalised in Malta?

Between 10th and 20th April 2007 over 450 people
participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

478 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 18 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 18 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 452.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Yes:                                       150 votes   =   33,19 %
No:                                        302 votes   =   66,81 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

More than two thirds of the voters are against the legalisation of registered same-sex partnerships in Malta.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This is a clear voting in favour of the Catholic teaching and against the adaption to the times that have changed.
The poll shows that a clear majority of people are against civil unions.
We will see what the Maltese government will do about it.
