Shall international peacekeepers be sent to Lebanon to control the cease fire between Israel and Lebanon?

Results of 31st August 2006

The war in Lebanon has been on the news for the past two months. Now that a cease fire could be reached, international peacekeepers are needed to control this cease fire. But not everyone agrees to send soldiers to the region. What does the Maltese people think about the issue? Shall international peacekeepers be sent to Lebanon?

Between 10th and 24th August 2006 well over 300 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

380 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 11 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 11 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 333.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                              220 votes   =   66,07 %
No:                                20 votes   =    6,01 %
It doesn't matter:                 93 votes   =   27,92 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

An overwhelming two thirds majority is in favour of sending troops to Lebanon to secure the cease fire. But there is also a relatively high percentage of people (almost 28 %) who do not care much about the topic.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The Maltese people want peace in the Middle East. Lebanon is like Malta a Mediterranean country and could so be called a neighbouring country
. UN peacekeepers are necessary to secure the cease fire and to eventually do their part for a long-lasting peace between Israel, Lebanon and the Hizbollah.
